Manchester City's women got the better of Manchester United with a 1-0 win in the first ever Manchester derby in the Women's Super League (WSL) in front of a crowd of over 31,000 at the Etihad on Saturday. The attendance, with tickets at £7 ($8.6) per adult, smashed the previous record for a WSL match in the first of a serious of matches that will take place in the stadiums normally reserved for men's games this season.

Caroline Weir scored the only goal with a stunning strike from long range three minutes into the second-half for the hosts. However, United were far from outclassed in their first top-flight match after the Red Devils formed a women's team just 18 months ago.
